Biography

Here is the biography of David Suchet:

David Suchet is widely regarded as one of England's finest stage, screen, and TV actors, with an international reputation that has grown over the years. Born on May 2, 1946, in London, he is the son of actress Joan Patricia Jarché and renowned Lithuanian-Jewish obstetrician and gynecologist Jack Suchet.

David's early interest in acting led him to join the National Youth Theatre of Great Britain at the age of 16. He then studied for three years at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts before becoming a company member of the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1973.

On British television, Suchet's first appearance was in the TV movie "A Tale of Two Cities" in 1980. He went on to play a range of characters, including a Greek inspector in the Disney mystery comedy "Trenchcoat" (1983),a Middle Eastern terrorist in "The Little Drummer Girl" (1984),and a Russian operative in "The Falcon and the Snowman" (1985).

Suchet's film roles have been equally diverse, with performances as a French hunter in "Harry and the Hendersons" (1987),a Polish bishop in "To Kill A Priest" (1988),and the emperor Napoleon in "Sabotage!" (2000).

In addition to his screen work, Suchet has had a long and distinguished career in theatre, with notable roles including Iago in "Othello", Tybalt in "Romeo and Juliet", Caliban in "The Tempest", and the title role of "Timon of Athens". He has also played classical roles such as George in "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" (1996),composer Salieri in "Amadeus" (1998),and Joe Keller in "All My Sons" (2010).

Suchet has been married to former actress Sheila Ferris since 1976, and they have two children, Robert and Katherine. He was awarded Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 2011 for his services to drama, and was promoted to Knight Bachelor of the Order of the British Empire in 2020 for his services to drama and to charity.
