Darius Shu is a skilled cinematographer based in London, with a passion for crafting humanistic and poetic stories that captivate audiences through striking imagery. He is deeply committed to uplifting underrepresented communities and amplifying Asian stories, with the ultimate goal of fostering meaningful societal conversations and driving progress forward through the power of cinema and storytelling.
Throughout his career, Darius has worked on a diverse range of projects, showcasing his versatility and talent as a cinematographer. One notable example is the BAFTA-nominated ITVX documentary Always, Asifa (2023),which demonstrates his ability to tell compelling stories that resonate with audiences.
In addition to his work on Always, Asifa, Darius has also lent his expertise to other notable projects, including the Netflix documentary Peach Paradise (2022),the documentary Queer Parivaar (2021),which world premiered at the BFI Flare 2024 and won the Best British Film award at the Iris Prize in 2022. His most recent project is the film Where We Came From (2024),starring Emmy-winning actress Archie Panjabi.
Darius has also made a name for himself as a 2nd Unit Director of Photography, working on Justin Lin's upcoming film 'Last Days', which is set to world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival 2025. He has also recently shot Sky Yang's debut feature film 'Slim', executive produced by Chi Thai.
In addition to his work on feature films, Darius has also had success in the short film genre. His short film His Hands (2019) was nominated for Best Narrative Short at the Tribeca Film Festival, while his short film I Am Norman (2021) was selected at the Rhode Island International Film Festival.
