Danilo 'Bata' Stojkovic, a renowned and esteemed actor, was born on August 11th, 1934, in the vibrant city of Belgrade, Yugoslavia. He was destined to become one of the most prominent and respected figures in the history of Yugoslav and Serbian cinema.
Throughout his illustrious career, Stojkovic acted in an impressive 68 films, making his debut in the 1964 film "Covek iz hrastove sume". He also had a prolific presence on television, starring in over 50 TV dramas and 20 TV series. One of his most iconic roles was that of Bubuleja in Sinisa Pavic's TV series "Diplomci" (1971),which remains one of his most beloved and enduring performances.
Stojkovic began his journey as a theatre actor in the 1950s, performing on the stages of the Yugoslav Drama Theatre. He later became a member of the esteemed "Atelje 212" theatre company, where he remained for nearly four decades (1961-1999). During his time at "Atelje 212", he brought to life over 80 captivating characters, including Pete in Harold Pinter's "The Birthday Party", Lopahin in Anton Chekhov's "The Cherry Orchard", Ilija Cvorovic in Dusan Kovacevic's "The Balkan Spy", Luka Laban in Dusan Kovacevic's "The Professional", and Captain in August Strindberg's "The Father".
Stojkovic was a favorite among many notable directors and writers, including Slobodan Sijan and Dusan Kovacevic, with whom he collaborated on numerous projects throughout his career. His impressive body of work and enduring legacy continue to inspire and entertain audiences to this day.
