Danielle Macdonald was born and raised in Sydney, Australia, where she spent her formative years before making the bold decision to relocate to Los Angeles at the tender age of 18 in order to pursue a full-time career in acting.
Audiences are likely familiar with Macdonald's breakout role as Patti in the critically acclaimed film Patti Cake$, as well as her portrayal of the title character in Dumplin' opposite Jennifer Aniston. She has also had the opportunity to appear alongside Sandra Bullock in the Netflix hit Bird Box, as well as in the Oscar-winning short film Skin, opposite Jonathan Tucker.
Furthermore, Macdonald has appeared in the feature version of A24's Skin, alongside Jamie Bell, as well as in the film Paradise Hills, which boasts an impressive cast that includes Emma Roberts and Awkwafina.
In addition to her film work, Macdonald has also made a name for herself through her television appearances, including her critically acclaimed role in the Netflix series Unbelievable, which earned her a Golden Globe nomination.
The Savannah Film Festival honored Macdonald in 2019, presenting her with the Rising Star Award in recognition of her outstanding talent and dedication to her craft.
Macdonald's impressive filmography also includes her portrayal of the iconic role of Lillian Roxon in the film I Am Woman, which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival in 2019. Her next project is the romantic comedy Falling For Figaro, directed by Ben Lewin, which recently premiered at the 2020 Toronto Film Festival in the Industry Selects section.
Macdonald can also be seen in the Sony Pictures Classics' film French Exit, which boasts an impressive cast that includes Michelle Pfeiffer, Lucas Hedges, and Tracy Letts. The film is set to debut closing night of the 2020 New York Film Festival and will be released in theaters on February 12, 2021.
