Daniel Kokotajlo, a British filmmaker born in either 1980 or 1981, is also known by his pseudonym Dan P. K. Smyth. With a unique perspective shaped by his upbringing as a Jehovah's Witness, Kokotajlo penned and directed the 2017 film Apostasy, a deeply personal project.
Apostasy, a cinematic masterpiece, earned the prestigious Writers' Guild of Great Britain award for "Best First Screenplay". The film received widespread critical acclaim, garnering a BAFTA Award nomination for Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer in 2018, and six British Independent Film Awards (BIFA) nominations.
Prior to his successful filmmaking career, Kokotajlo pursued higher education, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in textiles and fine art from Manchester Metropolitan University in 2003. He then went on to earn a Master of Arts (MA) degree in screenwriting and film production from the University of Westminster in 2010.
