Dan's journey in filmmaking began after graduating with a degree in media and film-making. He started his career in editing, working for renowned production companies such as BBC, Paramount, and Nickelodeon. During this period, he created several short films, including the award-winning Foreplay starring Frances Barber.
In 2004, Dan ventured into feature filmmaking by shooting his first film, Experiment, in the Czech Republic. The film went on to win 17 film festival awards and gained international recognition. Following this success, Dan produced an award-winning multi-platform drama series, Girl Number 9, and the Edinburgh Film Festival favorite, Stormhouse.
In collaboration with Shoreline Entertainment, Dan adapted the best-selling novel Spanky into a film. In 2012, his biographical feature film, The Man Inside, was released in UK theaters, starring acclaimed actors Peter Mullan and David Harewood. The film received praise from The Guardian, who described it as "ambitious and intelligent work."
After a brief hiatus, Dan returned to filmmaking with his 2016 feature film, Learning to Breathe, which premiered at the Raindance festival in London. In 2019, he shot the short romantic comedy, Girl Tuesday, and is currently working on The Monster in the Bed, an ambitious short drama film set in 1965. Additionally, Dan is developing a new feature film set in World War 2.
Dan's career has been marked by numerous awards and international recognition, solidifying his position as a talented and versatile filmmaker.
