Biography

Corwin Anthony Hawkins was born on March 12, 1965, in the vibrant city of Houston, Texas. His early life took shape at St. Peter's Catholic School, where he graduated in 1982, laying the foundation for his future endeavors.

Corwin's name became synonymous with laughter and entertainment throughout Texas, as he captivated audiences with his two-hour stand-up comedy routine. Every Tuesday night for four years, he would take the stage, delivering side-splitting performances that left the crowd in stitches. His array of memorable characters, including Kelly Kelly, Debra Debra, Fanisha Poontane, and Miku Waka, quickly gained popularity among the Dallas natives. Moreover, his impressive impersonations of famous stars like Whitney Houston, Diana Ross, Mariah Carey, and the incomparable Grace Jones left the audience in awe.

What set Corwin apart was his uncanny ability to improvise, weaving a tapestry of humor that held the audience enthralled. His wardrobe changes, featuring exquisite dresses and high-end shoes, added an extra layer of sophistication to his performances. As Amazing Grace, Hawkins defied convention by opting for a more understated, yet elegant, style, which perfectly complemented his unbridled comedy.

Front-row attendees were often drawn into the action, becoming unwitting participants in Corwin's wild and zany antics. They might find themselves singing, dancing, or even persuaded to shed their clothes to the delight of the entire audience. Celebrities like Keith Carradine, Lucy Arnaz, and the incomparable Grace Jones were among those who witnessed Corwin's shows during their visits to Dallas.

Corwin's impressive repertoire earned him numerous accolades, including the coveted titles of Miss Gay Texas in 1991, Texas Entertainer of the Year in 1992, and National Entertainer of the Year in 1992, which he won in Louisville, Kentucky.

Corwin's remarkable talent caught the attention of Keenan Ivory Wayans, who discovered him appearing on Def Comedy Jam, B.E.T., and HBO Comedy specials. Corwin went on to accept the role of Wayman, originally written for the legendary RuPaul, and was awarded an invitational tryout at the L.A. Improv.

Tragically, Corwin's life was cut short on August 5, 1994, when he passed away at Baylor Hospital in Dallas, Texas, at the tender age of 29, due to complications from Pneumonia.
