Cody Franchetti was born on November 22, 1974, in the eternal city of Rome, Italy. His family's rich heritage dates back to his great-great-grandfather, Baron Raimondo Franchetti, who married Maria Louise Rothschild, a descendant of the renowned Rothschild dynasty. This union not only brought together two powerful families but also cemented Franchetti's connection to the world of high society.
Franchetti's grandfather, Baron Mario Franchetti, married Anne Milliken, a textile heiress, further solidifying his family's position in the upper echelons of society. His father, Giorgio Andrea, is a winemaker and patron of the arts, while his mother, Angelica Ippolito, is an accomplished Italian theater and cinema actress.
After completing his secondary education, Franchetti spent two years in Paris, honing his musical skills as a private student in 1992. He then relocated to New York City in 1994 to pursue his passion for music at Mannes College of Music, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in 2000.
In the following years, Franchetti's life took an unexpected turn when he starred in Jamie Johnson's documentaries Born Rich (2003) and The One Percent (2006). In these films, he candidly shared his experiences as a rich heir, offering a glimpse into his privileged upbringing.
Seeking to expand his horizons, Franchetti enrolled at Columbia University's Graduate School of Arts in 2008, where he earned his Master of Arts degree in 2013. Since then, his focus has shifted towards academia, with numerous publications in reputable scholarly journals. Additionally, his poetic talents have been showcased through the setting of his works to music by composer Michael Linton, resulting in the creation of Lieder for voice and piano. These masterpieces have been performed at prestigious venues, including Carnegie Hall's Weill Hall, in 2014 and 2019.
