Stanford historian Clayborne Carson was appointed by Coretta Scott King to oversee the publication of her late husband's papers, and he has since become renowned for his significant contributions to documentaries inspired by the movements sparked by Martin Luther King, Jr.
As a senior advisor for the groundbreaking documentary series, Eyes on the Prize, which initially aired during the 1980s, Carson has been involved in the production of over two dozen documentaries, including Freedom on My Mind, released in 1994, which received an Academy Award nomination in 1995.
Additionally, Carson has worked on Citizen King (2004),Have You Heard from Johannesburg? (2010),Freedom Riders (2011),Black Panther: Vanguard of a Revolution (2015),and I Am MLK Jr. (2018),for which he served as Executive Director.
Moreover, Carson penned the play Passages of Martin Luther King, initially performed by Stanford University's Drama Department and later by the National Theatre of China in 2007 and the Palestinian National Theatre in 2013.
The latter production was featured in the documentary Al Helm: Martin Luther King in Palestine (2013).
