Clarine Seymour, the talented actress, was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1898 to Albert and Florence Seymour. Her father, Albert, ran a thriving ribbon manufacturing business, but unfortunately, in 1917, he fell ill, forcing him to close his successful venture. With her father unable to work, Clarine sought employment to support her family. She joined the Thanhouser Film Company in New Rochelle, which led to her being hired by Pathe, where she appeared in a Pearl White serial. In the same year, she starred alongside Mollie King in 'Mystery of the Double Cross'.
Clarine's subsequent roles included the Toto the Clown comedies for the Robin Film Co and many Al Christie comedies. She received an offer from the renowned director, D.W. Griffith, who cast her in 'The Girl Who Stayed at Home' (1919) and 'True Heart Susie' (1919),opposite the legendary Lillian Gish. She also starred in 'Scarlet Days' (1919).
In 1920, Clarine's career reached new heights with her starring role in 'The Idol Dancer', which earned her widespread acclaim. The public adored her, and shortly after the film's release, she signed a four-year contract. Her next role was in 'Way Down East', but unfortunately, tragedy struck when Clarine suddenly passed away at the age of 21 due to an intestinal ailment following an operation at Misericordia Hospital in New York.
Mary Hay took over Clarine's role in 'Way Down East', and the film went on to become a box office success, cementing Clarine's legacy as a talented and promising young actress, whose life was tragically cut short.
