Biography

Christopher Robson, a renowned countertenor, was born in Scotland in 1953. He is recognized as one of the leading singers of his generation, known for his performances in opera and concert music from the Middle Ages to the Avante-Garde.

Robson made his debut with the English National Opera in 1981, starring in David Freeman's groundbreaking production of Monteverdi's Orfeo. He went on to perform with the ENO for 15 years, singing iconic roles such as Handel's Julius Caesar, Arsamenes in Xerxes, and Polinesso in Ariodante.

Robson has also performed with other prominent opera companies, including the Royal Opera Covent Garden, Opera North, Scottish Opera, Opera Factory, Glyndebourne Festival Opera, and Glyndebourne Touring Opera. His international career has taken him to the USA, singing with the Houston Grand Opera, New York City Opera, and Chicago Lyric Opera, among others.

Robson has worked with many acclaimed directors, including Richard Jones, David Alden, Willy Decker, Robert Carsen, Pierre Audi, Eike Grams, Robert Lehmeier, John Copley, Peter Sellars, Nicholas Hytner, and Martin Duncan. He has collaborated with renowned conductors, such as Niklaus Harnoncourt, Claudio Abbado, Mark Elder, Zubin Mehta, Sir Charles Mackerras, Ivor Bolton, and Gary Bertini.

Since 1994, Robson has been a regular guest at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, performing a wide range of roles, including Giulio Cesare, Serse, The Rake's Progress, Coronation of Poppea, Ariodante, Rodelinda, and Die Fledermaus.

Robson has premiered several works, including Jonathan Dove's Flight, John Casken's Golem, and John Lunn's The Maids. In 2002, he opened the Munich Opera Festival with the K-Projekt 12/14, a specially commissioned "one-man opera" based on the writings of Kafka.

Throughout his career, Robson has recorded for several prominent labels, including Decca, Chandos, Harmonia Mundi, Meridien, and Naxos. He has also appeared on Radio, Television, and Film, and has been honored with several awards, including the Muenchener Opernfestspiel Preis and the title "Bayerische Kammersaenger".

Robson currently resides in East Sussex, England, with his son.
