Christopher Dorrah, a native of Charlotte, North Carolina, has been honing his writing and directing skills since the early days of his career. In 1994, he penned, produced, and directed the play "Lyrics of Fury," a comedy that delves into the life of a DJ and his tumultuous romantic relationships. That same year, Dorrah took home the prestigious Palmetto Drama Festival award for Best Actor in the stage play "Hoods."
As his career progressed, Dorrah continued to make a name for himself as a talented director and writer. His next play, "Black Sunday," tackled the complex conflict between a mayor and a uncompromising pro-black activist. The play's success led to his landmark production, "Jazzephatnastee," which, although some critics found heavy-handed, showcased Dorrah's ability to craft compelling narratives and direct with finesse.
Dorrah's subsequent play, "4 Play," explored the world of dating, sparking controversy that rivaled some of his earlier works. However, his next production, "My Soul Good," took a more lighthearted approach, incorporating an underlying theme of understanding Kwanzaa. The play's gentle tone was a departure from Dorrah's more provocative earlier efforts.
In 1997, Dorrah wrote, produced, and directed "manage a trois," a thought-provoking exploration of love, relationships, and infidelity. The play received widespread critical acclaim, cementing Dorrah's status as a master of his craft. Despite this success, his next play, "SYSTA," which premiered at Ovens Auditorium in Charlotte, failed to meet financial expectations. Undeterred, Dorrah used this setback as an opportunity to refine his skills, taking time off to upgrade his writing and screenwriting abilities.
In 2008, Dorrah's hard work paid off with the creation of the television series "Metro." A locally produced, hour-long drama/soap opera, "Metro" premiered on the WB in South Carolina and quickly became the number one rated show in the region. In addition to his work in the entertainment industry, Dorrah also owns a chain of retail clothing and multimedia stores, including Dorrah International, HQ Stop n Shop, Urban Essential, and Dorrah Grillz, all located in the southeast region.
Throughout his career, Dorrah has been driven by his mantra: "I don't want to know the world, I want the world to know me."
