Ms. Palmer's illustrious career in the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company commenced in 1965, when she took on the esteemed role of Principal Contralto. Her impressive repertoire included, among others, the captivating Buttercup in "H.M.S. Pinafore", which was also recorded for posterity. Additionally, she brought to life the spirited Ruth in "The Pirates of Penzance", the charming Jane in "Patience", the regal Fairy Queen in "Iolanthe", the elegant Blanche in "Princess Ida", which was also recorded, the enigmatic Katisha in "The Mikado", the dignified Dame Hannah in "Ruddigore", the noble Dame Carruthers in "The Yeomen of the Guard", and the grand Duchess of Plaza Toro in "The Gondoliers". Ms. Palmer's tenure with the company came to a close in 1971. Prior to her tenure with the D'Oyly Carte, she had already gained valuable experience with several opera companies in Australia. Since leaving the Carte, she has continued to flourish as a concert singer, while also directing numerous amateur companies in their performances of the Gilbert and Sullivan Operas.
