Shiang-chyi Chen is a renowned Taiwanese actress who embarked on her illustrious career in the world of performing arts. Her journey began when she was discovered by acclaimed director Edward Yang while taking an acting class, leading to her appearances in two of his notable films, including the 1994 critically acclaimed drama, A Confucian Confusion.
Subsequently, Chen pursued higher education in the United States, enrolling in the prestigious New York University's performing arts program. Following her academic endeavors, she returned to Taiwan and resumed her acting career, solidifying her reputation as a talented and versatile performer.
Throughout the subsequent decade, Chen collaborated with the visionary director Tsai Ming-liang, starring in several of his critically acclaimed films, including the 2001 drama What Time Is It There?, the 2003 film Goodbye, Dragon Inn, the 2005 drama The Wayward Cloud, and the 2006 film I Don't Want to Sleep Alone.
