Charles Henri Ford was a multifaceted individual, whose creative pursuits as a poet, photographer, publisher, and bon vivant, spanned a significant portion of the 20th century, forging strong bonds and collaborations with influential intellectual and artistic figures, including the likes of Gertrude Stein and Andy Warhol.
In parallel with his artistic endeavors in the avant-garde, Ford's life and work were at the forefront of mid-20th century sexual politics, as an openly queer individual. His artistic expression, much like that of his gay contemporaries, such as Allen Ginsburg and Kenneth Anger, merged his outsider sexual status with the underground sensibility of the poets, painters, and filmmakers with whom he associated.
