Charles Baxter, a renowned literary figure, hails from Minneapolis, where he initially pursued his academic endeavors at Macalester College, situated in the adjacent city of Saint Paul. Following the completion of his graduate studies in English at the esteemed State University of New York at Buffalo, Baxter embarked on a teaching career, which spanned several years at Wayne State University in Detroit.
In 1989, he made a significant career transition, joining the Department of English at the University of Michigan--Ann Arbor, where he also played a crucial role in the university's Master of Fine Arts (MFA) program. Currently, Baxter is an esteemed professor at the University of Minnesota.
