Biography

Charles Robert Band, a multifaceted creative force, was born on December 27, 1951, in Los Angeles, California. As the son of producer and director Albert Band, and brother to composer Richard Band, Charles was destined to follow in the family's footsteps. With a passion for storytelling, he began his career in the 1970s, writing, producing, and directing films across genres such as horror, science fiction, fantasy, and comedy.

Throughout his illustrious career, Band has been instrumental in shaping the home video industry. He co-founded Empire Pictures and Full Moon Features, two studios that have produced a vast array of cult classics. His companies, Meda (later renamed Media Home Entertainment) and Wizard Video, played a significant role in popularizing European horror movies, introducing audiences to renowned filmmakers like Jess Franco and Lucio Fulci.

Band's impressive body of work includes films such as Ghoulies, The Dungeonmaster, Terrorvision, Re-Animator, and From Beyond, which were all produced under the Empire Pictures banner. With Full Moon Features, he has continued to create a wide range of films, including Puppetmaster, Doctor Mordrid, Subspecies, Pit and the Pendulum, Castle Freak, and many more.

Despite the ever-changing landscape of the home video and theatrical film markets, Band has remained committed to his craft. He has made his classic Full Moon pictures available on his Full Moon Streaming channel and Full Moon Amazon channel, and continues to distribute his own and other filmmakers' movies on DVD and Blu-ray through Full Moon Direct. Additionally, he offers a variety of Full Moon universe merchandise, including toys and collectibles.

In recent years, Full Moon Features has produced a new slate of films, including Evil Bong High 5, Trophy Heads, Killjoy's Psycho Circus, Ravenwolf Towers, and Puppetmaster: Axis Termination. With a career spanning over four decades, Charles Band has cemented his status as a true pioneer in the world of independent filmmaking.
