Chandan's journey in the world of acting began as a child artist with GanaNatya Sanghya. He received his primary education from Ramkrishna Mission & Mitra Institution, an esteemed educational institution. His academic pursuits continued as he graduated with a degree in Arts from the University of Kolkata.
Under the guidance of renowned theatre personalities Utpal Dutta and Ramaprosad Banik, Chandan honed his acting skills and received critical acclaim for his performances in numerous plays. He joined Chenamukh in 1983, where he spent six years and acted in notable productions such as RaniKahini, Agunshuddhi, Pakhi, and Icchegari.
In 1988, Chandan joined Utpal Dutta's PLT and acted in plays like Kallol, Ekla Cahlo re, Lal Durgo, Aafim, and Krush Biddho Cuba. After Utpal Dutta's passing in 1993, Chandan reunited with Ramaprosad Banik's new group Theatre Passion and appeared in acclaimed productions such as Tempest and Trata.
Throughout his illustrious career, Chandan has acted in over 40 Bengali feature films and numerous Bengali mini serials. He made his directorial debut in 1982 with Satre's Dirty Hands and followed it up with Tagore's Bisharjan in 1984.
In 1997, Chandan joined Bengali theatre group natyaanan as a creative Director and has since been working as an actor and director in Bengali theatre. His international debut came in 1998-99 when he assisted Director Dr. Sudipto Chatterjee in staging Nuruldiner Sarajibon at New York's Off Off Broadway, produced by the Epic Actor's workshop.
Chandan has directed over 40 plays, including full-length and one-act plays, 10 Telefilms, and 2 daily soaps. He has also contributed to the popular television serial "Ek Akasher Nichey" by directing a few episodes. His portrayal of Manikbabu in the Bengali film Manikbabbur Megh earned him rave reviews.
