Biography

Cathy Lewis, a talented actress, is most famously remembered for her portrayal of Deirdre Baxter Thompson, the snobbish and pretentious sister of George and Steve Baxter, on the beloved television sitcom Hazel, which premiered in 1961. As the nemesis of the show's lovable and meddling protagonist, Hazel, played by the incomparable Shirley Booth, Lewis's character consistently found herself at odds with the well-meaning but hapless domestic. Deirdre, an aspiring socialite, relied heavily on the approval and acceptance of the upper class to validate her self-worth, often finding herself in awkward and humorous situations as a result of her own inflated sense of importance.
