Biography

Carmen Filpi, a talented character actor, was born on March 22, 1923, in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, to Remigio and Rosa Gatto Filpi. He graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1942 and went on to serve in the U.S. Army in the Pacific during World War II.

Filpi began his acting career as part of a comedy team with fellow Pittsfield resident George Morell, performing in minstrels and floor show troupes in touring shows and in the Washington area. In the late 1960s, he made the move to Hollywood, California, to further pursue his acting career.

Throughout his career, which spanned over forty years, Filpi accumulated numerous film and television credits, often playing the roles of drunken bums and mangy drifters. In addition to his work in film and television, he also appeared in various TV commercials.

Carmen Filpi passed away on May 9, 2003, at the age of 80, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Washington, D.C. He was survived at the time of his death by his sister Carmena and brothers John and Peter.
