Carlos Riquelme's journey began with the pursuit of a law and philosophy degree, however, his true calling lay in the world of acting. He made his stage debut in the mid-1930s, and shortly after, he transitioned to the silver screen, marking his cinematic debut in 1938.
Initially, Riquelme's unassuming appearance led to him being typecast in roles such as clerks and doctors, but he was occasionally given the opportunity to showcase his range in films like The Body Snatcher (1957),where he played a mad doctor.
As his career progressed, he became known for his portrayal of mildly distracted, whimsical, yet generally sympathetic characters. He appeared in a variety of international productions, including Under the Volcano (1984) and The Milagro Beanfield War (1988),in addition to dedicating a significant amount of time to television dubbing and radio work.
Throughout his illustrious career, Riquelme received numerous nominations, including a Best Actor Ariel nomination for En la tormenta (1982) and a nomination for Best Supporting Actor for El joven Juárez (1954).
