Carlos Ottery's life journey began after completing his university education in England, where he embarked on a diverse range of occupations, including trash collector, journalist, and sales professional. This eclectic mix of jobs ultimately led him to a life-changing decision, as he boarded a plane to Guangdong, China in 2008, marking the start of his Asian adventure.
During his initial stint in China, Ottery spent a year and a half teaching, which laid the foundation for his future endeavors. He then relocated to Beijing, where he discovered a new calling as an English and journalism instructor at the Communications University of China. This experience not only honed his teaching skills but also sparked his entrepreneurial spirit, as he went on to found Comedy Club China, a pioneering platform that brought together Chinese and expatriate comedians to entertain audiences in China.
Under Ottery's guidance, Comedy Club China evolved into a staple of Beijing's vibrant nightlife, featuring weekly stand-up comedy routines that have become incredibly popular. Moreover, Ottery's creative endeavors extended beyond the comedy club, as he made his acting debut in the feature film This is Sanlitun.
