Carl Andersen, a renowned Austrian filmmaker, left an indelible mark on the underground and low-budget film industry. Prior to embarking on his filmmaking journey, he began his career as a film critic, utilizing his expertise to organize the prestigious Festival of Subversive Films in Vienna. His inaugural feature film, "Vampyros Sexos" or "I was a teenage zabbadoing," premiered in 1988, setting the stage for a prolific career that would span decades.
In 1991, Andersen relocated his filmmaking endeavors to Berlin, where he became an integral part of the video library Negativeland. Throughout his career, he consistently produced a steady stream of films, some of which garnered significant controversy. On the occasion of his 50th birthday in 2008, the Berlin program cinemas Brotfabrik and Tilsiter Lichtspiele paid tribute to his contributions by hosting a comprehensive Carl Andersen retrospective.
Tragically, Carl Andersen's life came to a close in August 2012, leaving behind a legacy that continues to inspire and influence filmmakers to this day.
