Carishma Basday is a talented actress, dancer, and model who has been fascinated with the spotlight since a young age. She began her journey in the performing arts by training in various styles of dance, including ballet, modern, jazz, contemporary, hip hop, belly dancing, funk, fusion, salsa, and Latin American.
As an exchange student in Chicago in 2005, Carishma not only contributed to various charitable causes, such as helping hurricane Katrina victims and educating people about her native South Africa, but also pursued her passion for journalism, working as a reporter for a local paper and news anchor for a local news channel.
Carishma's dedication to her craft led her to secure a role in the play Les Miserables and a dancing show, further solidifying her aspirations to become a professional actress and dancer. She went on to earn a degree in performing arts and media studies in 2008, as well as a diploma in behind-the-scenes work, including editing, script writing, lighting, directing, and producing.
In 2009, Carishma joined the Artists One agency and has since been involved in numerous TV commercials, both nationally and internationally. She has also returned to her love of theatre, starring in the award-winning site-specific theatre spectacular Betesda in 2010 and completing the multi-award-winning Hanekom trilogy with Babbel in 2012.
Carishma has recently appeared in two feature films, 31 Million Reasons in 2010 and Material in 2012, in which she played the leading role alongside comedian Riaad Moosa. She has been featured in various magazines, including the Marie Claire Naked Campaign issue, and was voted the 19th sexiest woman in the world in 2012.
As a creative and spiritual individual, Carishma is currently working on a feature film and a theatre production, as well as collaborating with fellow actors to develop, produce, and star in a web-series. She has recently joined the cast of Mela on SABC 3 and enjoys presenting the lifestyle show.
Carishma is also a passionate yogi, having completed a 200-hour yoga teacher training in India and currently pursuing her 500-hour advanced teacher training. She loves teaching yoga and inspiring others on her spiritual journey.
In her free time, Carishma enjoys traveling, sampling local cuisine, and spending time with her loved ones. She is an avid animal lover and works closely with charitable organizations like WWF and DARG, often hiking with her dogs and tending to her organic vegetable garden.
