Cameron was born and raised on the prairies of Saskatchewan, the youngest of five siblings. His father, Ken, was a career Conservation Officer and full-time Firearms Safety Instructor, while his mother, Eleanor, was a homemaker and switchboard operator involved in various local activities.
From an early age, Cameron was involved in the world of firearms handling, maintenance, and safety, often staying up late into the morning to study his father's library of firearms-related reading or engage in lengthy conversations with those who handled firearms for a living, including law enforcement, sport shooting, hunting, and military personnel who frequently visited their home.
At the age of twelve, Cameron became the youngest firearms safety instructor in Saskatchewan and went on to instruct the safe and proper handling of firearms through the Royal Canadian Army Cadets, where he became a three-time award-winning competition shooter, as well as a civilian instructor through the local Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation. During this time, he was also a member of the Provincial Full Bore Rifle and Pistol shooting associations.
Cameron was also discovering his film and video production abilities, working clandestinely against his father's wishes with the family's 8-millimeter movie camera, making short films. Several short films later, he moved to VHS video productions, continuing his short film-making while volunteering with his local community cable company as a camera operator. He was also busy with local and high school theatre projects as an up-and-coming actor and writer.
Eventually, Cameron moved east to pursue his passion for feature films and local television. In 1993, he relocated to the west coast, where he became heavily involved in the local film, television, and theatre scene, working as an actor, special skills performer, print and media personality, and eventually, behind the camera as a writer and director.
Upon entering the Vancouver Film School's full-time Film Foundation Program, Cameron found work as an on-set Armourer, utilizing his background in firearms handling and safety for film production. This combination of his two interests, firearms and film production, was a perfect fit. While in film school, his short film script, "Jesus Was A Capricorn," was chosen for production, and he worked as sound designer, set sound recordist on two other student films, and technical FX advisor on three more student films. At the same time, he also became an assistant special effects technician on several industry projects, ranging from television commercials to feature films.
Currently, Cameron divides his time among various projects, working closely with the Royal Canadian Army Cadet League as an instructor and firearms safety instructor, as well as committing time to student and amateur filmmakers, working as an advisor and fellow filmmaker. He is still being contacted regularly by national and international film-related media, including magazines, newspapers, and radio. Having taken time away from major film productions to refocus his efforts and gain a fresh perspective, he is currently working on his first of five feature film projects committed to his new Savage Haggis production company.
