Bujar Alimani is a renowned writer/director, widely regarded as a prominent figure in the New Albanian Cinema movement. His cinematic journey began with a series of avant-garde short films, including KATOI (The Kennel),GAS, BUSULLA (The Compass),and NJE HISTORY DASHURIE (A Love Story),which garnered widespread critical acclaim for their unique blend of imaginative storytelling and gritty realism.
Throughout his career, Bujar has been recognized with numerous accolades, including two Oscar nominations, and has showcased his work at major film festivals worldwide, such as Sundance and Berlin. His films have won countless international awards and have been presented at prestigious institutions like MoMa in New York City, solidifying his position as a significant figure in the art house circuit.
Bujar's feature film debut, AMNISTIA (Amnesty),received widespread critical acclaim and won the CICAE award at the Berlinale. The film's success led to its selection as Albania's official entry for the Oscars, and it was subsequently honored at MoMA in New York City.
His subsequent feature film, KROM (Chromium),premiered at the Karlovy Vary film festival and went on to participate in 18 international festivals worldwide, winning several awards. Like AMNISTIA, KROM represented Albania in the foreign language category at the Academy Awards in 2016.
