Biography

Bryan Buckley is a two-time Oscar-nominated writer-director who has been dubbed the "King of the Super Bowl" by the New York Times. With over 65 commercials directed for the big game since 2000, many of his works have been inducted into the Museum Of Modern Art's permanent collection.

Buckley is a recipient of numerous prestigious awards, including the DGA award, multiple Emmy awards, and over 60 Cannes Lions, including two Grand Prix wins in 2019. He was also named Commercial Director of the decade by Adweek Readers Poll and one of the 50 best Creative Minds in the last 25 years by Creativity Magazine.

After graduating at the top of his class from Syracuse University, Buckley co-founded Buckley/DeCerchio with Tom DeCerchio, which became a $24 million dollar agency within two years. He then started his directing career in 1994, directing the Emmy Award-winning "This is SportsCenter" Campaign.

Buckley co-founded Hungry Man Productions with Hank Perlman in 1997, which won the Cannes Festival's Palme D'or as the top commercial production company in the world and has finished in the top ten for more than ten consecutive years.

He wrote and directed the short film Asad, which screened at over 50 film festivals worldwide and was nominated for Best Live Action Short Film at the 85th Academy Awards. Buckley also directed the feature films The Bronze and Pirates of Somalia, starring Oscar-winner Al Pacino.

In 2020, Buckley received his second Academy Award Nomination for his short film, Saria, which explores the unimaginable hardships young female orphans faced at the Virgen DE La Asuncion Safe Home in Guatemala. The film was shot on location in Mexico and received buzz among the activist community within Guatemala.

Buckley has been involved in various activism projects, including partnering with Parkland families as part of the Change the Ref campaign in support of gun control legislation. He also created a fake school, tricking former NRA president David Keene and gun-rights advocate John Lott into addressing a sea of empty chairs, representing children and teenagers who were shot and killed before they could graduate from high school.

In 2022, Buckley directed three more Super Bowl spots and won numerous awards for his work, including four grand CLIO's, the Black Cube for Best of Show at the ADC awards, two Black Pencils from D&AD, Best of Show at The One Show, and a Titanium at the Cannes Lions. Most recently, it was nominated for an outstanding commercial Emmy.

Buckley has also teamed up with Change the Ref to create the NRA Children's Museum, a mobile museum made of 52 empty school buses representing 4,368 children who lost their lives to gun violence in 2020.
