Biography

Bruce MacVittie was born in Providence, Rhode Island, in 1956, marking the beginning of a life that would be filled with a passion for acting. His journey in the world of theatre started in high school, where he first discovered his talent for bringing characters to life. He then went on to attend Boston University, where he had the opportunity to study with the renowned Jerzy Grotowski in 1976.

In 1979, MacVittie made the bold decision to leave his mark on the city that never sleeps, New York City, with the ultimate goal of making a name for himself in the acting world. His early career saw him join the Ensemble Studio Theatre in 1980, where he had the privilege of working under the guidance of Edward Allen Baker in the production of "Prairie Avenue".

Throughout his illustrious career, MacVittie was a founding member of the Naked Angels Theater Company, and spent over a decade working with the Eugene O'Neill National Playwrights' Conference under the guidance of Lloyd Richards. He also had the pleasure of collaborating with the renowned Joanne Woodward for several years, bringing the works of Clifford Odets to life.

In 1982, MacVittie took on the role of understudy to James Hayden in David Mamet's American Buffalo, starring alongside the legendary Al Pacino and J.J. Johnston at the Circle in the Square. When Hayden left the production, MacVittie stepped in to take over the role, and went on to reprise it in the subsequent Broadway production, national tour, and West End productions alongside Pacino and Johnston.

As a character actor, MacVittie had a long and illustrious career, appearing in over 75 film and television productions over the course of 32 years. He worked on both coasts, but predominantly in New York, where he had the opportunity to work with many of the city's most renowned theatres, including the Public, Playwright's Horizons, Manhattan Theatre Club, Signature Theatre, and the Cherry Lane.

Throughout his career, MacVittie's dedication to his craft and his passion for storytelling have made him a beloved figure in the world of acting, and his impressive body of work continues to inspire and entertain audiences to this day.
