Brit Heyworth Marling was born in the vibrant city of Chicago, Illinois, to Heidi Johnson and John Marling, both of whom are professionals in the real estate industry. Her academic journey led her to Georgetown University, where she earned a bachelor's degree in economics. Despite being offered a prestigious job at Goldman Sachs, Marling decided to pursue a career in the arts, opting to turn down the opportunity.
Subsequently, she relocated to Los Angeles with the aim of pursuing an acting career. Initially, she spent a couple of years exploring the movie industry, landing roles that typecast her as the quintessential "cute blonde in horror movies." However, Marling was determined to break free from these stereotypes and decided to take matters into her own hands. She taught herself to write, recognizing that creating her own material would increase her chances of landing decent roles.
Marling's dedication and perseverance paid off, as she worked simultaneously on two movies - one in the mornings and another in the afternoons. Her hard work culminated in the successful premieres of both Another Earth (2011) and Sound of My Voice (2011) at the esteemed Sundance Film Festival in 2011.
