Brian Gothong Tan, a multifaceted multimedia artist, was born in 1980 and has since made a name for himself as one of the most exciting and prolific artists to emerge from Singapore in recent years.
Tan's artistic journey began with a degree in Fine Arts, Multimedia, and Animation from the prestigious California Institute of Arts. His impressive skills and innovative approach to art earned him numerous accolades, including the "Best Use of Multimedia" prize at the 2005 Life! Theatre Awards.
In 2003, Tan showcased his artistic prowess with his first solo exhibition, "Heavenly Cakes and Sentimental Flowers". He also created "Hypersurface", which was featured at the 9th Venice Architectural Biennale in 2004, further solidifying his reputation as a talented artist.
In 2006, Tan represented Singapore in the cultural segment of the Commonwealth Games at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) in Federation Square, Melbourne. He was also the youngest artist to participate in the Singapore Biennale 2006 with his installation, "We Live In A Dangerous World".
Tan's impressive portfolio continued to grow with his interactive multimedia installation, "Signs, Omens and Relics of Faith", which was part of the 72-13's Creatives-in-Residence programme in 2007. He also demonstrated his versatility by serving as Director of Photography and Chief Editor of "Pleasure Factory", an edgy drama screened at the Cannes Film Festival 2007 under the Un Certain Regard section.
Tan's directorial debut, "Invisible Children", was produced by Eric Khoo's Zhao Wei Films Production and showcased his exceptional skills as a filmmaker.
