Brandon Jess, also known as B.J., was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and spent his childhood in Sterling, Colorado, as the middle child of a large family. His mother, a financial aid director for junior colleges, and stepfather, a law enforcement officer for the State Patrol, raised him. Brandon would often visit his father, a fish hatchery manager, and stepmother, which allowed him to maintain a connection with both families.
Following high school, Brandon embarked on a three-year journey, touring the continental United States and Scandinavia with a singing and repertory theatre company. After returning to the States, he attended the Colorado Film School, where he met his future wife, a fellow acting student. The couple got married and pursued their passion for the arts, with Brandon earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Film/Theatre/Television and a Master's degree in Humanities from the University of Colorado at Denver.
Brandon describes himself as someone who is not a deep thinker, but rather someone who is drawn to the world of thoughts and ideas. He admits to having a "weakness for thought," just as some people have a weakness for sugar. After his six-year marriage ended, Brandon left academia and returned to his original passion for acting, which ultimately led to his breakthrough role as Bob Halloran in the film "Aviation Cocktail."
Brandon's approach to acting is both intuitive and intellectual, reflecting his unique blend of artistic and analytical skills. His love for performing has remained unchanged since his early days in elementary school, and he continues to approach his craft with the same passion and dedication.
