Boris McGiver, an American actor, was born in upstate New York to parents of Ukrainian and Irish descent, Shmigelsky and McGiver. He is the son of renowned actor John McGiver.
Boris is recognized for his diverse array of roles, including Uncle George in the Apple TV series SERVANT, Glen Maskins in For Life on ABC, Monsignor Korecki in the CBS series Evil, Tom Hammerschmidt in House of Cards, Hersh in Person of Interest, Marimow in The Wire, and various other roles in notable films and television shows.
Before pursuing a career in acting, McGiver's primary goal was to attend the U.S. Air Force Academy. He was accepted into the Academy's class of 1984, but was subsequently released due to minor knee problems, which did not meet the Academy's physical requirements.
This setback led McGiver to re-evaluate his aspirations and ultimately led him back to his initial interest in acting. He went on to graduate from New York University's Graduate Acting Program, where he credits Ron Van Lieu, a renowned acting teacher, with helping him grasp the fundamentals of acting.
In addition to his acting career, McGiver has also spent a year in Sweden, which profoundly impacted his worldview and transformed him into a socialist, a label he proudly wears. He believes that compassion is the core tenet of socialism, and this philosophy has greatly influenced his life and work.
