Bob Hastings began his show business career in radio after World War II, initially as the voice of "Archie Andrews" in the Mutual Broadcasting System's adaptation of the popular Archie Comics series. With his dashing good looks, Hastings made a seamless transition to television in 1949, landing roles in early sci-fi series such as Captain Video and His Video Rangers and Atom Squad.
In 1955, Hastings landed his first recurring role on The Phil Silvers Show, playing either a sergeant or lieutenant in eight episodes, albeit with different character names but maintaining his signature demeanor. This marked the beginning of a long and storied television career for Hastings.
Throughout his career, Hastings has been notable for his memorable roles, including Lieutenant Elroy Carpenter, the loyal yes-man to Captain Binghamton, on McHale's Navy in 1962. He also appeared as one of the two Tommy Kelsey's on All in the Family in 1971 and as Captain Ramsey on General Hospital in 1963.
In addition to his live-action work, Hastings has also had a successful career in voice acting. He brought the character of The Raven to life on The Munsters in 1964 and voiced Superboy in the 1960s cartoons, The Superman/Aquaman Hour of Adventure. More recently, Hastings lent his voice to the iconic role of Commissioner Gordon in the animated Batman: The Animated Series in 1992.
