Blerta Basholli is a multifaceted writer and director, distinguished by her captivating realistic visual style, which masterfully explores complex social and gender issues rooted in her native Kosova and extending beyond its borders.
Her debut feature film, Hive, released in 2021, made a groundbreaking impact at the Sundance Film Festival, where it took home the prestigious Grand Jury Prize, Directing Award, and Audience Award in the World Cinema Dramatic category, becoming the first film in the festival's history to achieve this remarkable feat.
Prior to embarking on her feature film journey, Basholli was awarded the Dean's Fellowship at the Film Graduate Program at Tisch School of the Arts - NYU in 2008. For four years, she resided in New York City, where she had the opportunity to work on various film projects as a student, honing her craft and laying the groundwork for her future success.
