Biography

Blair Williamson, an individual born with Down syndrome in the late 1970s, when the concept of inclusion was initially emerging for the community with disabilities, has made a remarkable mark in the acting world.

From a tender age, Blair has been an actor, and his passion for the craft only grew stronger with time. His first professional acting job in 1990 came about through his participation in Special Olympics, where he was cast as a young male Special Olympic runner for a Procter and Gamble commercial. This initial success paved the way for more opportunities, with his mother ensuring he continued to pursue his dreams.

The early 1990s presented unique challenges for actors with disabilities, but Blair's determination and talent eventually led him to see a role model with Down syndrome on the show "Life Goes On." Chris Burke, who also had Down syndrome, played the role of Corky, a high school student and son, and this served as a door-opener for Blair's acting career.

Blair soon found himself working on various projects, including commercials, student films, and the USA Network film "My Antonia," alongside an esteemed cast, including Jason Robards, Eve Marie Saint, and Neil Patrick Harris, directed by the legendary Joe Sargent. This experience marked a turning point in Blair's career, solidifying his passion for acting.

Since then, Blair has made guest appearances on several TV shows, including "CSI," where his character was brutally murdered, allowing him to work with a special effects team. He also appeared on "nip/tuck," where his character received a nose job, and he got to experience having a cast made of his head and wearing prosthetics on his face. On "The Guardian," he was directed by his favorite Mighty Ducks' Coach, Emilio Estevez. On "Scrubs," Blair had the opportunity to work alongside Down syndrome advocate John C. McGinley and even riff with Zack Braff off-camera.

Blair's personal life has been filled with love and joy, as he has been in a long-term relationship with his girlfriend, Susie Schallert, for 17 years. Their love story is featured in the documentary short "Hunny-Bunny," produced by David Zimmerman and directed by Jayden Barriel, which has received accolades at various film festivals. The film can also be viewed on the Easterseals Disability Film Challenge's YouTube page from their 2020 competition.

Sadly, Blair lost Susie in 2021, but he has this beautiful film to cherish their life together.
