Biography

Noted actor, renowned for his exceptional skills as a stunt driver, gained widespread recognition for his iconic work in the 1968 film Bullitt. His impressive driving prowess was showcased as he expertly navigated the black Dodge Charger 440 Magnum, pursued by Steve McQueen's Ford Mustang 390 GT. This legendary chase scene has stood the test of time, cementing Hickman's reputation as a master of high-speed stunts.

William Friedkin, impressed by Hickman's skills, subsequently hired him for The French Connection (1971). In this film, Hickman doubled for Gene Hackman, performing hazardous stunts and driving the brown 1970 Pontiac at speeds of up to 90mph, with Friedkin capturing the action from behind the camera. This thrilling chase scene, set amidst the bustling streets of Manhattan, featured a greater presence of civilians, a dynamic that was absent in Bullitt.

Hickman's impressive driving skills were once again showcased in The Seven-Ups (1973),where he outdid himself driving the car being pursued by Roy Scheider in another iconic car chase. This landmark scene solidified Hickman's reputation as a stunt driver extraordinaire, and his work continues to be celebrated by film enthusiasts and action fans alike.
