Biography

Here is the biography of character actor Bernard Fox:

Born to an actress mother and actor-manager father, Bernard Fox began his career in repertory theatre from an early age. He served in the Royal Navy during the last two years of World War II, operating a minesweeper. After the war, Fox joined the ensemble of Brian Rix's Whitehall Farces, playing stereotypical stiff-upper-lip and bumbling British characters. This role type stuck with him throughout his career.

Fox's early career in British films and television included small roles and co-starring in the short-lived comedy series Three Live Wires. He then made the move to Hollywood with his wife, landing small roles in American television shows, including The Danny Thomas Show.

The 1960s saw Fox become a familiar face on television, with notable roles as Dr. Bombay in Bewitched and Colonel Rodney Crittenden in Hogan's Heroes. He also appeared in numerous guest roles, including 12 O'Clock High, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., Columbo, and M*A*S*H.

In later years, Fox continued to work in film and television, with notable roles in The Hound of the Baskervilles, Titanic, and The Mummy. He also maintained a commitment to theatrical work, appearing in productions in Canada, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and on Broadway.

In addition to his acting career, Fox was a renowned expert on theatre history, a keen gardener, a painter of landscapes, and a devotee of performing magic.
