Basil Hoskins was a renowned British film actor who also enjoyed a distinguished career on the London stage. He had the privilege of sharing the spotlight with some of the most iconic stars of his time, including Vivien Leigh in "Duel of Angels" (1958) and Alec Guinness in Terence Rattigan's "Ross" (1960).
In addition to his work on stage, Hoskins had a long-running stint in the musical "Applause" opposite Lauren Bacall in 1971. He was also a familiar face on British television, particularly in his role as Dr. Rex Lane Russell in the long-running drama series "Emergency-Ward 10" (1957),which premiered in 1963.
Before embarking on his acting career, Hoskins studied at RADA and later joined the Nottingham Playhouse Company. He spent five seasons with the Shakespeare Memorial Company at Stratford, where he played leading roles, including Lucias opposite Laurence Olivier's Titus Andronicus.
In the 1950s, Hoskins toured Australia with the Old Vic Company, alongside the legendary Katharine Hepburn. He also appeared in numerous stage musicals, including "A Little Night Music" and the London revival of "Call Me Madam" (1983) with TV star Noele Gordon.
Throughout his career, Hoskins appeared in numerous TV drama series and films. Some of his most notable film roles include "Ice Cold in Alex" (1958) and "North West Frontier" (1959).
