Barret Walz, a native of Kentucky, embarked on a journey of performance studies in music, laying the foundation for a lifelong passion. His undergraduate education at David Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee, provided a rich liberal arts education, offering personalized instruction and interactive performance groups that fostered a deep understanding of the craft.
Subsequently, Barret pursued his Master of Music degree in Opera at DePaul University in Chicago, further honing his skills and expertise. He went on to perform with esteemed companies such as Light Opera Works in Chicago and The Minnesota Opera in Minneapolis, taking on leading roles in productions like Madame Butterfly, Faust, and The Marriage of Figaro.
As his career progressed, Barret's interests shifted towards theater and film, drawn to the more intimate style of film acting. He transitioned into film work, absorbing the wealth of knowledge and experience offered by Chicago's thriving theater and film community. He trained at institutions such as the Tony Award-winning Victory Gardens Theater and The Actor's Center, preparing him for a successful career in film, television, and commercial projects.
Throughout his career, Barret has received numerous accolades, with his work premiering at major festivals worldwide, including the Bali International, Raindance, Chicago International, Austin, and LA Shorts film festivals. He was awarded Best Actor for his performance in Pickman's Muse at the Chicago Horror Film Festival, which featured over 50 international films. Additionally, he recently rejoined the cast of Chicago P.D. for another production.
