Baby Ruth Villarama has been actively involved in international co-productions for over a decade, honing her skills as a producer and documentary film director. Prior to her current role, she began her career by crafting news and current affairs stories for ABS-CBN, before being commissioned by international channels as a liaison producer for Southeast Asia.
Throughout her illustrious career, Baby Ruth has co-produced numerous socially relevant films with esteemed filmmakers and producers from the region, with some of her projects garnering recognition at prestigious international festivals such as Cannes, Berlin, and Venice.
As a testament to her dedication to her craft, Baby Ruth earned her master's degree in film marketing and distribution from Birmingham City University in the UK, where she was a Chevening Scholar. Her academic achievements did not go unnoticed, as she was awarded the 2018 UK Global Alumni Social Impact Award for her influential documentaries that have sparked global conversations and policy changes on migration and modern-day slavery.
One of her most notable achievements is the documentary film "Sunday Beauty Queen" (2016),which triumphed over a pool of narrative films in the 2016 Metro Manila Film Festival, claiming the Best Picture award.
In addition to her work as a filmmaker, Baby Ruth is also a key figure in Voyage Studios and Film Producers Society, startup organizations that strive to bring Filipino stories to a wider audience. She is currently a member of the cinema committee at the National Commission for Culture and the Arts and a member of the board of the Directors' Guild of the Philippines.
