Azean Irdawaty binti Yuseoef, a renowned Malaysian singer and actress, was born on February 26, 2010, and passed away on December 17, 2013. She rose to fame as a pop singer in the early 1970s and solidified her status as a prima donna in the silver screen from the late 1970s to the early 1980s.
Born in Alor Setar, Kedah, Malaysia, Azean preferred to be known by her nickname "Kak Yan". Her acting career began with her debut feature film "Di-Belakang Tabir", directed by Jins Shamsuddin.
Throughout her illustrious career, Azean won numerous awards for her outstanding performances. She received the Best Female Actress award at the 1st and 3rd Festival Filem Malaysia (FFM) for her roles in "Esok Masih Ada" (1980) and "Langit Petang" (1982).
As a singer, Azean created the hit song "Bawalah Daku Bersamamu", which captivated her listeners in the 1980s. Her extensive filmography includes "Mama oh Mama" (1981),"Perempuan" (1988),"Bintang Malam" (1981),"Sutera Putih" (1996),"Baginda" (1997),"Layar Lara" (1997),and "Waris Jari Hantu" (2007),as well as several local television dramas.
One of her most notable performances was as Auntie Zai in "Layar Lara", a third feature film directed by Shuhaimi Baba. She also received the Best Supporting Actress award at the FMM 2008 for her role as Tok Wan in "Waris Jari Hantu". Her final acting role was in Yasmin Ahmad's "Talentime" before her passing in 2009.
After her passing, Azean continued to work on television movies. She died on December 17, 2013, at the University of Malaya Medical Centre (PPUM) due to tumor and lymphedema disease. She was laid to rest at the Bukit Kiara Muslim Cemetery in Damansara, Kuala Lumpur.
