Avra Fox-Lerner is a multifaceted writer/director residing in Brooklyn, New York, with a rich cinematic background. As the daughter of a screenwriter, she developed a deep appreciation for film at a young age, but chose not to pursue formal film studies in her higher education. Instead, she embarked on a hands-on learning journey as a lighting technician with Local 52 IATSE, where she honed her skills by working on sets, mastering technical aspects, and creating her own projects. This unique blend of practical experience and self-directed learning enabled Avra to develop essential problem-solving skills, effective communication with crew members from various departments, and a distinct creative voice.
Avra's remarkable career has been marked by numerous accomplishments. She is an alumna of the prestigious New York Stage and Film Screenwriting Lab (2016) and the IRIS Writers Lab (2018). In 2018, she co-wrote the gripping serial killer thriller BLOODLINE with Henry Jacobson for Blumhouse Pictures, which was subsequently acquired by eOne Entertainment and released in 2019.
Avra has also ventured into short filmmaking, crafting two notable projects: The Lovers and Such A Shitty Time. The Lovers, an official selection of several prominent film festivals, including Final Girls Berlin, Brooklyn Film Festival, Chattanooga Film Festival, and Fantasia Fest. Such A Shitty Time, another official selection, was showcased at the Walla Walla Movie Crush.
Avra is currently in post-production for the third installment of her "COVID trilogy," titled Research. Throughout her career, she has demonstrated a passion for the horror genre, but is also committed to expanding the scope of her storytelling to include a broader range of female-led narratives.
