Asier Newman was born on July 28, 1980, and his life took an unexpected turn when he was scouted by a London modeling agency at the tender age of 17. This marked the beginning of his journey in the world of modeling, with appearances in advertisements for renowned brands such as Cadbury's and Heinz.
As his modeling career progressed, Asier adopted the stage name Ash Newman and began to pursue his passion for acting. At the age of 18, he landed the role of 'Arlo Dean' in the popular Channel 5 soap Family Affairs, a part he played from 1999 to 2000.
Newman's early television appearances also included roles in UK shows such as Casualty, The Bill, and Footballer's Wives. In 2003, he joined the cast of CITV's BAFTA-winning series "Sir Gadabout," playing the role of Juan, the Spanish squire.
Asier's breakthrough performance came in 2004, when he won the Grand Jury Prize for Best Actor at the New York Film Festival for his lead role in the feature film "Shem." This achievement made him the youngest person to receive the award, joining an impressive list of previous winners that included Guy Pearce and Oscar-winning actor Rod Steiger.
Asier's success in "Shem" caught the attention of Penelope Cruz's agent, Katrina Bayonas, who introduced him to renowned Spanish writer-director Julio Medem. Medem cast Newman as the lead male role of "Anglo" in his psychological thriller "Caotica Ana," opposite newcomer Manuela Velles and British-French screen legend Charlotte Rampling.
This collaboration brought Asier to the attention of Oscar-nominated director Sean Ellis, who cast him in his horror-thriller movie "The Broken" alongside Lena Headey.
