Ashapurna Devi, a renowned Indian literary figure, was born on 8th January 1909 and left an indelible mark on the world of Bengali literature until her passing on 12th July 1995. Throughout her illustrious career, she received numerous accolades for her exceptional work in the realms of novels and poetry.
In 1976, the Government of India recognized her outstanding contributions by awarding her the prestigious Jnanpith Award and Padma Shri. Furthermore, several esteemed universities, including Jabalpur, Rabindra Bharati, Burdwan, and Jadavpur, conferred upon her the honorary title of D.Litt.
Vishwa Bharati University honored her with the esteemed Deshikottama award in 1989, a testament to her enduring impact on the literary world. The Sahitya Akademi, a prominent literary institution, bestowed upon her its highest honor, the Sahitya Akademi Fellowship, in 1994, in recognition of her remarkable contributions as a novelist and short story writer.
