Biography

Arun Govil is an Indian actor who is most famously recognized for his iconic portrayal of Lord Rama in the esteemed television series Ramayan, which was produced by Ramanand Sagar and initially aired in 1987.

Born in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, Govil received his formal education at Chaudhary Charan Singh University, where he pursued engineering science and also had the opportunity to hone his acting skills by participating in various stage plays. During his teenage years, he resided in Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh, where he was exposed to a diverse range of experiences that shaped his aspirations.

Initially, Govil's father wished for him to pursue a career in government service, whereas Govil himself yearned to achieve something that would leave a lasting impact. This desire for recognition and a sense of fulfillment ultimately led him to shift his focus towards the world of entertainment.

In 1975, Govil relocated to Mumbai to join his brother's business, but he soon discovered that this path was not aligning with his true passions. He then decided to explore alternative avenues, which led him to pursue a career in acting. Govil's first foray into Indian cinema occurred in 1977 with the film Paheli, where he was introduced to the renowned filmmaker Tarachand Barjatya by his sister-in-law Tabassum.

Barjatya was deeply impressed by Govil's performance in Paheli and subsequently signed him for a three-film deal with Kanak Mishra's Sawan Ko Aane Do (1979),Vijay Kapoor's Raadha Aur Seeta (1979),and Satyen Bose's Saanch Ko Aanch Nahin (1979). Sawan Ko Aane Do turned out to be a major commercial success, catapulting Govil to stardom. Although Raadha Aur Seeta failed to garner significant box office returns, Saanch Ko Aanch Nahin was another success. Govil went on to feature in Kanak Mishra's Jiyo To Aise Jiyo (1981).

In addition to his cinematic endeavors, Govil made his television debut with Ramanand Sagar's Vikram Betaal and later starred in the iconic Ramayan series in 1987, earning widespread recognition and cementing his status as a household name.
