Art Jones is the head of Great Jones Productions in New York, where he skillfully merges filmmaking with community-building to catalyze social change. As a writer, director, and producer, he has created a diverse range of narrative films, including "Dodgeball," "Going Nomad," and "Lustre, which have been showcased on prominent platforms such as HBO, PBS, and ARTE, as well as in unconventional settings like parking lots and bare-bulb basements across America.
His documentary, "The Blood in this Town," has made a significant impact by traveling to all 50 states, sharing valuable insights and strategies for revitalization with struggling small towns and cities.
Jones' latest feature film, "Forbidden Cuba," is a groundbreaking production that marks the first American feature made in Cuba since 1959. This thought-provoking film, which draws inspiration from "Local Hero" and "Heart of Darkness," was shot in a bold and unconventional manner, without permits, permissions, or a Plan B, in a guerrilla-style approach that aimed to bridge the cultural divide between the people and cultures of the United States and Cuba.
Art Jones graduated from Brown University and currently resides in Brooklyn. He also serves as an Adjunct Professor of Film at Hunter College, where he shares his expertise with the next generation of filmmakers. Throughout his career, Jones has been recognized with a nomination for Film Independent's prestigious John Cassavetes Award and is known for performing all his stunts without a net.
