Antonios Baxevanidis was born on May 15, 1944, in Likostomo Pellas, Greece, during a tumultuous time for the country. Just two weeks after his birth, his parents decided to return to Thessaloniki due to the ravaging effects of the civil war.
Growing up, Antonios was an athletic and creative individual. He attended the technical school of electrical engineering in Thessaloniki and developed a passion for cycling and basketball. He also served in the Greek army for two years, honing his discipline and sense of duty.
In 1968, Antonios made the bold decision to migrate to Australia, where he would pursue his love for theatre and cinema. He began by studying the Stanislavski method of acting with Shayna Hevron, and later enrolled in Crawford productions film school. His first acting role was with the Malvern Theatre Co., where he played the character of Mr. Apopolos in the production of "My Sister Eileen".
Antonios continued to hone his craft by attending theatre workshops at the Melbourne Actors Lab, led by the esteemed Peter Kalos. He also worked as a freelance photojournalist, earning recognition for his photograph of Nelson Mandela, which was published by Kodak.
Throughout his illustrious career, Antonios has appeared in numerous films, including "Kostas" (1979),"Malcolm" (1986),"The Young Wife" (1984),"The Keepers" (1984),"Dougherty" (SBS),"Flowers of Rethymnon" (SBS),and "Prisoner" (1979). He has also had roles in various Greek television series, including "Eisai to tairi mou!" (2001).
In addition to his film work, Antonios has had a successful career in television, appearing in shows such as "Acropolis Now" (1989),"In 10 Easy Steps" (2014),and "It's a Date" (2013). He has also taken part in over 50 short films and numerous commercials.
On stage, Antonios has appeared in productions such as "The Respectful Prostitute", "The Shifting Heart", "Zoo Story", "Scapino", and "Pluto" by Aristophanes. He has worked with notable directors such as Michael Nikoloudis and David Myles, and is a member of the Actors Equity of Australia MEAA.
Antonios has also had a successful career in music videos, having taken part in over 12 productions. His most recent success was in the music video for Tones and I's hit single "Dance Monkey" (2019),which has garnered over 542 million views.
Throughout his extensive career, Antonios Baxevanidis has demonstrated his versatility, talent, and dedication to his craft. He continues to be a respected and accomplished figure in the Australian entertainment industry.
