Biography

Noted British thespian Anton Lesser, born in 1952, has had the distinction of bringing numerous principal Shakespearian characters to life on stage, courtesy of his long-standing association with the esteemed Royal Shakespeare Company, a position he has held since 1990. His impressive repertoire includes, but is not limited to, iconic roles such as Petruchio, Romeo, and Richard III.

Beyond his extensive work in the realm of live theater, Lesser has also made significant contributions to the world of radio and spoken word audio, having recorded over a dozen productions for the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC). These recordings span a wide range of literary classics, including John Milton's epic poem Paradise Lost, Homer's ancient Greek masterpieces, and, of course, the title role in William Shakespeare's timeless tragedy Hamlet.

One of Lesser's most notable achievements, however, lies in his narration of Charles Dickens' major novels, with his rendition of Great Expectations earning him the prestigious Talkie Award.
