Anthony Barclay is a multifaceted individual, boasting a career that spans both the stage and screen. His impressive resume includes notable roles in productions such as Domina, Judge John Deed, and Common As Muck, showcasing his versatility as an actor and producer.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Barclay is a devoted family man, married to Antonia Fiber, with whom he shares one child. His previous marriage to the talented comedian, Doon Mackichan, resulted in the birth of three daughters, India Lily, Ella-Rose, and Esme-Violet, as well as one son, Louis.
Barclay's paternal lineage is equally impressive, with his father, Danny Williams, being a renowned singer who achieved a number one hit in the UK with the iconic song "Moon River" in 1961. Not only did Danny Williams have a successful music career, but he also had the privilege of touring with The Beatles, who were just beginning to make their mark on the music industry at the time. Additionally, he recorded a swing album with the legendary Nelson Riddle, who was known for his work with Frank Sinatra, among many other notable artists. Danny Williams' music was so highly regarded that Nat King Cole, who was one of his idols, refused to record a version of "Moon River" because he believed that Danny's version was unbeatable.
Throughout his career, Barclay has had the opportunity to work with some of the most talented individuals in the industry. From 2010 to 2013, he collaborated with actor, writer, and director Steven Berkoff on several original productions, including Biblical Tales, Line up, Gas, and Oedipus: After Sophocles, which was produced both in the UK and the US.
As a younger actor, Barclay had the privilege of working with the esteemed Stephen Sondheim, performing in the European premier of Assassins at the Donmar Warehouse in London, directed by Sam Mendes. He also appeared in Follies at the Shaftesbury Theatre in London, alongside the legendary Eartha Kitt, and in the European premier of Pacific Overtures, where he played the role of The Boy in the Tree.
In 2023, Barclay is set to take on the role of Councillor Sutt in season 2 of the Apple TV+ series Foundation.
