Biography

Anthony Banua-Simon is a renowned documentary filmmaker and editor who has received widespread recognition for his outstanding work in the industry. He was listed as one of the "25 New Faces of Independent Film" by Filmmaker Magazine in 2021 and was also named to DOC NYC's 2022 "40 Under 40" list.

Anthony's debut feature documentary, Cane Fire, premiered at the 2020 Hot Docs International Film Festival and was later selected for the 2021 MoMA Doc Fortnight. The film went on to win "Best Documentary Feature" at the 2020 Indie Memphis Film Festival and the 2021 Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival. Cane Fire was distributed theatrically by Cinema Guild and is currently available to stream on The Criterion Channel.

Cane Fire has received critical acclaim from numerous publications, including RogerEbert.com, The Wrap, Jacobin, Film Threat, and Hyperallergic, among others.

Anthony's short documentary, Third Shift, won "Best Short Documentary" at the 2014 Brooklyn Film Festival and was previously available to stream on The Criterion Channel.
